Anxiety: The Seminar of Jacques Lacan, Book X
Sunday, June 1st at 15h30
Talk at Olivieri Bookstore with Adrian Price, the translator
Jacques Lacan is reputed as a key personality in the history of psychoanalysis and one of the most important thinkers of the twentieth century. In his Seminar X, Lacan examines the nature of anxiety. He argues that it is not nostalgia for the object that creates anxiety, but its imminence. These lessons from 1962-1963, the last of the year-long seminars that he held at Sainte-Anne Hospital, form the keystone to this classical phase of his teaching.
The Book of this Seminar, which was edited by Jacques-Alain Miller in 2004, has just been published in English-language translation by Adrian Price (Polity Press, Cambridge): Anxiety: The Seminar of Jacques Lacan, Book X.
Adrian Price is a British psychoanalyst based in San José, Costa Rica. From 2010 to 2013 he was editor-in-chief of Hurly-Burly, the International Lacanian Journal of Psychoanalysis. He is the translator of the X Seminar ''Anxiety'' of Jacques Lacan, which was recently published in English.
